YouTube Music Introduces Labels that Identifies AI-Generated Songs

NewsTechTrendsYouTube Music Introduces Labels that Identifies AI-Generated Songs

YouTube Music is adding new labels for AI-generated songs. With this update, the company is making it easier for listeners to see when a song is created using generative AI. Announced on October 14, 2026, the feature comes with a label directly on the player page. It aims to address listeners’ concerns about transparency when they hear an AI-generated track.

The label is seen below the song title, alongside the artist or channel information. When a user taps the label, it opens a new menu that shares more information, such as whether the content was synthetically generated or altered using AI. The “How this content was made” section expands the video description with additional information.

How Does the Labels Appear on YouTube Music?

According to YouTube, the labels cover tracks created mainly with generative AI, including music in which AI models generate the composition and vocals. The company also said it is teaming up with music partners and using its own detection tools to identify AI-generated tracks. The labels will initially appear in YouTube Music and plan to expand the feature to the main YouTube app.

The company mentions on its help page that music partners should disclose Gen AI usage to help YouTube accurately treat and label media that contains Gen AI. The disclosure system has three categories.

The Three Disclosure Gen AI Categories

  • Fully Gen AI: All content was created using Gen AI.
  • Partly Gen AI: Some parts of the content were created using Gen AI.
  • No Gen AI: No content was created using Gen AI.

These classifications distinguish AI-generated tracks from music that includes AI-generated elements with human input. Unlike competitors, YouTube focuses on disclosure rather than automatically restricting AI-generated music.

The new labels don’t affect a track of eligibility for monetization, and YouTube hasn’t confirmed whether they affect recommendations. As AI-generated music becomes common across streaming platforms, YouTube’s initiative gives listeners a clear view of how their music is generated.
