Following updates that began in March 2025, Google introduced AI-powered search that factors in recency, most-clicked emails, and frequent contacts instead of simply returning results in chronological order. Breaker recommends that brands clean their lists with validation tools, segment out contacts who are not opening or clicking, and pay closer attention to which growth channels are delivering engaged subscribers. Billups says senders should stop treating opens and clicks as vanity metrics and start treating them as signs of whether content is truly earning attention.

For example, if a subscriber has not opened at least one of the last 10 emails or clicked at least one of the last 30, Breaker recommends reducing frequency and reserving those contacts for special sends until relevance is restored.
