NewsTechTrendsGoogle Introduces Generative AI Performance Reports in Search Console with New Controls & Upgrades for Website Owners

Google is rolling out a new Generative AI performance report within Google Search Console. The report aims to provide website owners with key data on website visibility in Google AI search results. The update features separate reports for Search and Discover to track how your website performs in Generative AI features on Search. This includes the AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative AI features in Discover.

More importantly, Google is also testing a new control that lets you block your content from appearing in the AI Mode and AI Overviews. Website owners can decide for themselves with a simple toggle button within the Search Console.

Regarding the Generative AI performance reports, wherein Google said“The data is included in the overall performance report, where it will continue to be tracked to give site owners an overview of the overall visibility of their site in Google Search.”

What Does the New Report Include?

The following information will be shown in the AI performance reports regarding how your site is seen in the AI search:

  • Impressions: How frequently URLs from your site appear in the AI features in Search and Discover.
  • Pages: Identify which URLs were seen within AI features.
  • Countries: Know your site’s visibility by country.
  • Devices: Understand the devices people are using to search your website.
  • Dates: You can check performance over time, such as hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly.

Google is also rolling out new insights for website owners in Search Console on the appearance of their pages in generative AI features. According to the company’s statement, “We’re continuing to work with website owners to understand what insights will be most helpful to inform their strategies, and we’ll introduce additional metrics over time.”

Website Owners Get New Control to Block Content from AI Overviews and AI Mode

As previously said, Google is coming up with a new “Toggle” in Search Console. Website owners can now decide if they want their site to appear in Generative AI features such as AI overviews and AI Mode, or AI Overviews in Discover. This way, users now have more control over their site. For sites that do not opt in, they will not receive data, such as traffic, impressions, or clicks, from the Generative AI features.

Upgraded Generative AI Experience

Another interesting part is that Google is upgrading its Generative AI feature experience. Considering the widespread use of AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google is now creating new opportunities for creators, brands, and publishers.

  • The number of inline links in responses is increased.
  • New subscription label in Gen AI to help users know which websites they need to see frequently.

The company noted that the features are currently available to a subset of UK website owners and will roll out globally after completing testing. With this new feature update, it’s clear that Google is making AI search more accessible, in control, and helpful for billions of users.
