OpenAI Launches Images 2.6 in ChatGPT with Faster Image Creation and GIF Generation

NewsTechTrendsOpenAI Launches Images 2.6 in ChatGPT with Faster Image Creation and GIF Generation

OpenAI has rolled out Images 2.6, bringing motion to your images with GIF creation and improved image-generation capabilities to ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. Users can now turn simple text prompts or uploaded into animated GIFs directly within the ChatGPT interface.

For example, users can animate a brand mascot or character, or turn a product shot into an animated GIF. Users can create visuals faster, edit them accurately, adjust animation speed, and review each frame with Images 2.6 in ChatGPT. Previously, ChatGPT did not offer a straightforward way to create fully animated GIFs in a single step. However, the new update makes this possible.

New Models for Developers with Faster Image Generation

One key feature is that Images 2.6 can generate images 50% faster than before. The company also introduced two models for developers to choose from: GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst. Flare focuses on faster image generation in as little as six seconds with low quality. The model is ideal for social media visuals, prototyping, product experiences, and work that needs more detail and precision. Sunburst is designed for higher-quality image generation and comes with greater image consistency across edits when quality is set to medium or high.

New Features for GIF Creation and Editing

Images 2.6 comes with several features that make animated content creation easier. Users can generate GIFs from written prompts or photos and modify the animations. They can also inspect individual frames and adjust playback speeds, with options that range from 0.5x to 2x.

These features let creators and marketers easily animate a brand mascot, create social media memes, and build animated storyboards, making it easier to communicate through GIFs.

Improved Creating and Editing in the API

With Images 2.6, developers get more control over how images are created, edited, and carried into the next step of the project. Image markup is already available in ChatGPT and is now coming to the API, so teams can show where the changes need to be made exactly. Alongside, developers get features like SVG exports, image-quality settings, and a complexity parameter to manage how much planning goes into generating visuals.

Availability and the Rise in Image Usage

Images 2.6 is now available globally in ChatGPT and Codex across subscription tiers on web, desktop, and mobile. Plus, GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst and GPT-Image-2.6 Flare are now available in the API. According to OpenAI’s statement, “People around the world can now create 4 billion images per week across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. On average, that’s more than half a billion images created per day.”

This highlights the growing use of AI-powered visual content. OpenAI aims to make visual content creation easy for all marketers, designers, and digital enthusiasts through its native GIF creation, faster image generation, and enhanced editing tools.
