OpenAI has added CarPlay support to ChatGPT, giving iPhone users a way to talk to the chatbot from a vehicle dashboard without touching the phone. As per MacRumors, the feature is tied to Apple’s iOS 26.4 update and is available only on iPhones running iOS 26.4 or later.
Apple’s CarPlay system is designed to keep drivers focused on the road, and the new setup follows that objective by making voice the main way to interact.
According to reporting on the rollout, ChatGPT on CarPlay works as a voice-based conversational app. Apple began allowing this type of third-party app in iOS 26.4, but developers must obtain a special entitlement and use Apple’s voice-control template. The app is not allowed to show text or images in response to queries, which keeps the experience audio-first and limits distraction while driving.

Drivers can ask questions and make requests through the car interface, then listen to the responses aloud with ChatGPT in Apple CarPlay. Reportedly, the integration does not let ChatGPT control vehicle functions or iPhone settings.
