- Function similarly to the Performance Team and develop canonical plugins that users can install to test new functionality before knowing if it should be integrated with WordPress core.
- Provide a central place where innovators, WordPress contributors, and more can share their AI insights and projects easily.

- Work closely with cross-functional efforts and unleash the full power of AI features.
- Collaborate with other teams such as Design, Core, and Accessibility ensuring high consistency and standards.
- Keep a roadmap of all the AI plans and Canonical plugins.
The Team Behind!
The AI initiative of WordPress combines deep expertise from AI innovators and mainly Google employees being the key part of WordPress core. The following are the key contributors:
- James Lepage – Automattic
- Felix Arntz – Google
- Jeff Paul – 10up
- Pascal Brichler – Google
From the above Felix Arntz is a Senior Software Engineer at Google and WordPress Core Contributor. Alongside, former Performance Team Lead. Pascal Birchler is a key WordPress contributor and Developer Relations Engineer at Google. Recently, he spearheaded the integration of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) into WordPress with WP-CLI.
James LePage and Felix Arntz will serve as the AI team’s first representatives to get things going. They will play a key role in organizing, coordinating, and communicating with other WordPress teams.
