Adobe has unveiled a suite of new AI-powered features for its creative software lineup at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2025, with Generative Extend taking center stage as the company’s latest breakthrough in video editing technology.

Generative Extend, powered by Adobe’s Firefly AI model, allows video editors using Premiere Pro to extend clips with AI-generated 4K frames. The technology works in the background while editing, enabling professionals to hold emotional moments longer, smooth out transitions, or add missing ambient audio without needing to reshoot footage.

“Powered by Adobe Firefly, Premiere Pro will seamlessly add extra 4K frames, so you have enough media to cover transitions, hold on an emotional reaction for an extra beat, or add in missing ambient sounds and/or room tone,” Adobe stated in their April 2 press release.

The feature can add up to two seconds of video or ten seconds of ambient background audio. While initially available for free, continued use of Generative Extend will eventually require Firefly generative credits, with pricing varying based on format, frame rate, and resolution.

All AI-extended clips will be marked with Content Credentials to maintain transparency about AI-generated content.

Beyond Generative Extend, Adobe introduced several other AI-powered enhancements.

Other AI-Powered Advancements by Adobe:

  • Media Intelligence and Search: An AI-powered search function that can identify objects, locations, and spoken words in footage, eliminating time-consuming manual searches.
  • AI-Translated Captions: Automatic translation of captions into 27 languages to help creators reach global audiences.
  • Premiere Color Management: A simplified drag-and-drop color management system for converting log footage from various cameras into HDR and SDR formats.

After Effects 25.2 has also received significant updates, including a high-performance preview playback engine, enhanced 3D motion design tools, and HDR monitoring capabilities.

Adobe will showcase these new features at NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas from April 6-9 at Booth SL2210.
