Mistral, a French AI startup, announced on Tuesday the launch of Europe’s first AI reasoning model, which uses logical thinking to generate responses. This is a game-changing step in competing with the Americans and Chinese, which stand as the frontrunners in the AI development space.
Mistral is all set to take center stage as Europe’s AI rival, with its own regional identity, alongside financial backing and support from French President Emmanuel Macron. This is, indeed, noteworthy!
Mistral – The All-New AI Frontier
During the announcement of the reasoning models, two more Mistral models were introduced, Magistral Small – open source and freely available for download on the Hugging Face platform and Magistral Medium – for big-level applications. These reasoning models basically utilize chain-of-thought techniques that generate answers with intermediate reasoning abilities to solve complex problems.
In short, Mistral could be an exciting approach for expanding AI’s potential as the conventional method of creating ever-larger language models by increasing data and processing capacity starts gradually running off steam.
With a $6.2 billion market share, the French reasoning model is relying on a trend in the industry that is shifting from just building bigger models to more intelligent systems that can explain, reason, and adapt.
Furthermore, the tech giant Google released their reasoning models a few months after OpenAI, which was the first to do so last year. Moving forward, Meta, which also makes its models open source, has not yet released a standalone reasoning model.
