According to multiple sources familiar with the matter OpenAI is reportedly developing its own social media platform. This could be the next major tech battleground as the company behind ChatGPT has created an internal prototype. It leverages the popular AI image generation tool alongside a social feed. This is positioning the AI powerhouse to compete directly with Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s suite of social platforms.
Even though the idea is still in its early phases of development, tech circles have already taken a keen interest in it. It’s unknown if this will launch as a stand-alone app or merge directly within ChatGPT, which just became the most downloaded app worldwide. CEO Sam Altman has been discreetly asking a few outsiders for their opinions on the idea.
Strategic Expansion Driven by Data Collection:
Since OpenAI wants access to the same type of distinct, real-time user data that rivals like X and Meta currently use to train their AI models, the move seems well-timed. Meta trains its Llama model on its extensive library of user-generated content from Facebook and Instagram. Musk’s Grok AI assistant surfaces content straight from X.
OpenAI’s newest image generating tool, which has reportedly proven so popular that it overloaded the company’s servers, seems to be the project’s foundation. Altman himself changed his X profile photo to an AI-generated image made with ChatGPT. And images produced with this tool have gone viral on several social media networks.
