Reddit Introduces ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ Feeds, Making a Big Shift in Discovering Communities

NewsTechTrendsReddit Introduces 'For You' and 'Following' Feeds, Making a Big Shift in Discovering Communities

Reddit, one of the popular social media platforms has introduced a new feed experience on October 28, 2026, allowing users to choose between two feeds displayed on the company’s home page: For You and Following feeds.

As per the company’s statement, “This new feed experience is the first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant –an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest.”

This makes Reddit the latest social platform adopt this recommendation-driven feed popularized by TikTok, and other platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X, and Threads.

The main aim of the new feed experience is to give users unmatched flexibility. It allows them to discover new communities, opportunities, and conversations, or to catch up on the communities they’ve already been part of, enhancing their overall experience on Reddit.

How Does ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ Feeds Work?

  • For You feed combines posts from communities users have already joined with content recommendations tailored to their interests. This helps users discover new communities, discussions, and perspectives they might otherwise not see.
  • Following feed only displays posts from the communities users have joined, keeping their browsing experience more specific; in short, community-focused.

With the new feeds, the company expects users to engage with content beyond the communities they follow and adopt the recommendation-driven experience. However, not everyone will like the change, as some users prefer updates specific to the communities they follow. Users who have experienced features in its early testing phase have expressed concerns regarding the redesigned experience.

Switching Feeds and Regarding Rollout

Reddit will let users switch between feeds at any time. The platform will remember the last feed viewed and open it the next time they open Reddit. This new experience is rolling out globally over the next few weeks.

The Bigger Picture!

Reddit also plans to keep experimenting with new ways for people to explore Reddit, navigate based on their interests, hide posts, and indicate what they want to see less frequently. This feedback can help to make recommendations relevant and easy to navigate.
