NewsTechTrendsMozilla Firefox Now Integrates Perplexityโ€™s AI Answer Engine as New Search Optionย

Mozilla, the popular web browser, announced on Tuesday that the AI search engine, Perplexity, is now integrated into the Firefox browser as a new search option on desktop. Users no longer need to change their browsers to get a new AI-powered search experience.

They can choose between traditional search and AI search to find information online. Mozilla appears to have a different approach when compared to other tech firms that are busy developing their own AI browsers. The company is integrating AI within its existing Firefox experience, putting users’ choice and privacy in first place.

The feature is available only in markets like the UK, the US, and Germany. Even though Perplexity is rolling out globally for desktop users, mobile availability is expected in the coming months. Positive feedback from pilot testing allowed Mozilla to make the feature accessible globally.

How Does Perplexityโ€™s New Search Option Work?

Once Perplexity is enabled, it delivers chat-style search results along with citations that replace the traditional lists of links with summarized, contextual answers. Users can access the feature through the unified search button in the address bar or through another alternative option. The default search engine can be set to Perplexity in the Firefox settings.

The main reason Mozilla chose Perplexity is its strong privacy nature, which ensures users’ data is not shared or sold. In a statement, Mozilla emphasized its commitment towards giving users control: โ€œYou decide when to use the AI answer engine, or if you want to use it all.โ€ In an effort to provide more options to users, the company also shared hints to integrate more AI search engines.

Features Coming Down the Line

With the integration of Perplexity AI, Mozilla also announced the expansion of browser profiles. It allows users to switch seamlessly between school, work, and personal browsing setups. Furthermore, the company continues to test visual search using Google Lens with users who have Google as their default search engine.

All these updates are meant to make Firefox more innovative, more flexible, and privacy-conscious to its users.
